Pinewood Derby

I don't think AJ had one pinewood derby the whole time he was in cub scouts. They had other events that took its place like the "vegetable regatta".  It's no wonder that his had a hard time with scouts... that, and his short attention span, and short fuse...

But this kid, he has been participating every cub year and absolutely loves it. The only part he doesn't like, is using the power tools to shape it. He is always so cheerful and happy with the results, even though he has never been an event place holder.   Here are some shots of his last pinewood derby journey:

 

 

Snow Camping

AJ was excited when Bj said he would come on the scout overnighter to Jordan pines. I, was SO glad I wasn't invited. Camping in the snow sounds absolutely miserable. Don't get me wrong, I love playing in the snow, possibly even an entire day... As long as I can have a heat source to warm my nose and a warm toilet seat to sit on when I need to pee. Also, sleeping in snow pants doesn't even sound like a possibility. So I'll say it again, I'm SO glad I wasn't invited to go to the Boy Scout Overnighter. My boys, on the other hand, couldn't get enough! AJ was up past midnight with his friends, making snow ramps and doing tricks with cheap flashlights as a light source. Bj loves lighting camp-fires, eating dehydrated meals and blending in with nature. ...My idea of meshing with nature is sinking my head into my downy pillow.
I'm glad Bj is willing and excited to go, and that AJ wants his dad tagging along on his camping trips.
