Elementary Halloween

Halloween parties. Costumes. October 9th. D track. Thankfully Ash decided what she wanted to be a year ago, and Carson wanted to be a "soccer player" (his concept of Halloween has always been a little skewed) so when we heard that D track was indeed celebrating Halloween, complete with parade, we didn't feel completely overwhelmed. Ash was a little disappointed that we didn't "complete" her costume, but was in love with her skirt and cape enough to compensate for the lack of completing the Red Riding Hood ensemble. As we pulled up to the school, ash told me that her class wasn't going to be in the parade... They had to take a test. So... I took time off work to sit in a crowded, noisy, smelly cafeteria, to watch Carson walk through in his current soccer uniform.

O Joy.

It seems the older my kids and I get, the less enthused I get about Halloween.

Sorry kids.

I still put on the act, but it's definitely loosing its luster. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy helping get costumes and makeup ready, and even planning and attending celebrations, but the endless bowls of candy, the rotting pumpkins, the spider web stuff that seems to be everywhere?!... I'm pretty much over it. I do love that it promises cooler weather, and that, that I look forward to. That and soup.

I love soup.

"Soccer player" and he's always worth taking a little time off work, even if his "costume" was worn at last week's game.

Less than thrilled that she's a little late, and I made her stop to take a picture. It's her LAST Halloween party day!

Halloween party

Just a couple pics from our annual "Pitts Halloween Party without the Pitts".  Maybe one day we'll have Halloween with them again?

Halloween 2015

Halloween, this year, was on a Saturday! What a delight it was not to have to worry about work or school! Actually, the three days prior, I was knocked senseless with a cold so luckily all the costume prep had been done or we'd be in trouble. We had a bit of drama concerning trick or treating that I felt was resolved beautifully.

It all started with aj asking if he could go to a Halloween party instead of staying home (8th grade--- to trick-or-treat, or not??)  I knew there would be boys and girls at this party which under different circumstances wouldn't bother me, but the fact that A- I had never met or even heard of the host, and B- Aj has a "Girlfriend" (Aspen), deterred me from allowing him to spend the evening in an unknown void of temptation.  I'm probably over reacting, but he's my first.  I'm suppose to make mistakes with him.  Besides, once the decision was made for him not to go, the festering pit in the depths of my soul magically dissipated into a peaceful oblivion.

The other dramatic turn was that Ashlyn's plans to trick or treat with Chloe was shot down when their family suddenly moved away.  She was devastated and needed a suitable distraction so I was overfilling with joy and relief when Carrie said their plans would work just as well, even better, if we went to their house for Halloween this year.  Our kids match up perfectly so everyone was happy!
Soccer Player, Firefighter and Red Riding Hood stopping by to see Grandma before the Door to Door Sweet Soliciting begins.
First Stop- The Fire Station across the street! Royal treatment, as you can imagine, for these cuties.
Cleopatra Kaylee, and Red Ash.
"What can I get away with wearing and not having to really dress up?" (14 year olds...)
Girls- "We are done! Lets sort and Organize our candy!"
Boys: "We are done... Let's play video games."
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Castle-oween

Always enjoy spending holidays with family.

A new sewing project...

This is what AJ told me he wanted me to make him for a Halloween costume...
This awesome specimen is "Conner" from the video game, "Assassin's Creed".  I told him I'd do my best. I stopped at the fabric store on the way home from work and priced out the different fabrics and straps I would need and figured it would cost me over $100 to make. He's 13, he doesn't even need a Halloween costume… Right? When I told him how much it was going to cost he was absolutely bummed. So I told him I would see what I could do. I went to the DI and found address, amends Michelin T-shirt, and a blue curtain panel, plus five or six different belts totaling around $15. DI did not disappoint. I took the next day off work and cut and pressed and stitched and trimmed and manipulated the fabric until it finally looked like this: (I really wish I did a before and after picture :-)
This young man was a very pleased customer.which makes it worth every grueling second.

Halloween

All three kids in home made costumes. The miracle: all three kids smiling. This year Bj stayed home to pass out candy and I went with Ash and Chloe. (Well... The whole Cornia family) Carson went with Joseph, AJ went with Jarren.  I had a pretty annoying cough and was able to refill my water bottle at Angie Alms house (whew!) but other than that the night was mellow and incredibly warm! A Halloween to remember!

Halloween Parade

I absolutely loved the Halloween parade when I was a kid, but it's so much better as a mom! I love watching my kids come through and find me in the crowd and smile and wave! I must admit, my kids are absolutely adorable in their home-made costumes.

Halloween 2011

A a kid I always looked forward to the festivities of Halloween. Now it's three times more fun!!!
This year AJ is a cheerleader (his choice, yes.. Approved by mom). Ashlyn is Taylor Swift (only MUCH prettier), Carson is Opitmis Prime (the cutest transformer ever!)
Bring on the sugar!!

Happy Halloween!

\
A Grimm Reaper, Spiderman, A Bride, A Cat, and yes.... A "stay at home mom"  (Don't be offended, before we came s-he folded 4 batches of laundry, made dinner for our family and two others, created a visiting teaching message to deliver the day after the last day of the month..., dusted, spot-cleaned two costumes, ran to the store to get a gallon of milk, then to the shoe-store to get the perfect shoes for Ashlyn's costume, called  mother, wrote a letter to a missionary, cleaned up an "accident", stitched up a tear in spidermans tushey, made a batch of cookies for the halloween party, checked his email, updated his blog, twittered and facebooked, and still had a couple minutes to squeeze in a Twilight chapter (for the 6th time) before s-he had to curl ashlyn's hair for her costume....So, don't be offended, .it's a compliment!)

Ladybug Girl

Ashlyn decided she wants to be "Ladybug Girl" for Halloween. She got the idea from a book I got her to match her room. It is a darling book about a little girl named lulu who invents the "Super Hero" "Ladybug Girl". She has a few simple adventures with her dog (which spoils the book for me... why make a darling book and ruin it with the ugliest dog in fiction?) The graphics are pretty cute, I love that she has short brown and a round little face, just like my "Ladybug Girl" ... and now I get to figure out how to make the wings and try and find some boots (although we will be adding black leggings to our freezing utah halloween festivities)

As far as the other two kids' costumes... I am hoping I will be able to get carson to be a bug (I borrowed a costume from Lisa) and AJ can't make up his mind. He'll probably end up being a superhero (grumble, grumble).

I am curious as to what costumes you and your little ones will be sporting this year...???
