Thanksgiving 2014

This year was a White Family Thanksgiving. (No matter how old I get, when I label anything "White family" I still imagine my maternal grandparents) anyway... Linda gave us the gift of time this year as she declared she would be providing all the food and all we need to do is show up! It was so fun to enjoy the morning with my kids as we put up our tree and watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Bj was at work so it was just they kids and I. The meal itself was, of course, incredible. All the fixings, including moist and tender turkey, fluffy and flavorful stuffing, candied yams, green beans, and perfectly mashed potatoes with gravy, and hot buttery home-made rolls. Oh yeah... And there was also pie. A LOT of pie. Linda always takes pie orders and makes sure everyone gets exactly what they want. She even made a double cream blueberry pie for Bj which I took to the fire station after we finished up our feast.
Kind of a funny thing, going to the fire station... We had the car which allowed us to take Brynne with us for a sleepover. Just as we were about 2 minutes from the station, Bj called and told me he was on his way out (of course, he gets a call...) so when we saw the truck approaching we dutifully pulled to the right, but we signaled him with our headlights so he knew it was us.  He responded by honking the "shave and a haircut" rhythm. We all got a kick out of that. So we got to the station and the kids ran the pie. (And BJ's electric razor) into the station while I waited in the car. They came out a minute later and we headed home. When we were about 3/4 of the way home when it was unveiled that the pie was left on a bookshelf about two inches from a light... That was on. So I turned around and headed back. Just as we pulled into the driveway (again) a shadowy figure darted across the parking lot and scaled the wall then disappeared behind it. The kids wouldn't dream of getting out of the car unaccompanied when their stomaches were tied in nervous knots (mine was pretty tense too) so we all cluster walked into the station to move the pie to the fridge. Bj said the kids could all get a drink from the fridge so we headed into the bay and raided the fridge. Just as we were heading to the dark parking lot the door sprang open and we all jumped a mile high, startling the young firefighter coming in to open the bay door. It wasn't Bjs crew so we said goodbye and headed back home... Again.

A delightful day, with a bit of mystery= a memorable Thanksgiving Day.
